Day trip along Germany’s oldest vacation route to the medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The journey leads from Würzburg through the “Ochsenfurter” Gau into the Tauber Valley. Three wine-growing regions meet here on the Romantic Road: Franconia, Baden and Württemberg. On the outward journey, stop in Weikersheim to visit the Renaissance castle with its magnificent Knights’ Hall and baroque castle garden. Medieval Rothenburg invites you to take a stroll through the historic old town. On the return journey, there is an additional stop at the baroque residence in Würzburg. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Weikersheim has one of the most important Renaissance palaces in Germany with an almost completely preserved interior and a magnificent palace garden laid out in the Baroque style of Versailles. The baroque palace garden fascinates with its numerous extraordinary figures. Unlike almost any other garden from this period, the statues here are almost completely preserved. Over 70 statues, most of which have stood on their pedestals for 300 years. Admission included.
Drive through the Spessart to Würzburg, the old university town on the Main River. Continue to Weikersheim, famous for its Renaissance castle with its magnificent “Knights’ Hall” and its Baroque courtyard garden. Pass through small wine villages in the Tauber Valley to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany’s most romantic town.
In Würzburg, you can choose to get off at the Residenz or the main train station.
